From the Rink to the Heart of the Community: Our Chat with Erin Kelly

We had such an incredible time at our annual Family Skate at Lois Kemp Arena, and one of the highlights this year was a heartwarming conversation between Dr. Chantal Plant and her long-time friend, Erin Kelly.

Erin, a CPA and entrepreneur, recently joined Hockey Canada’s Volunteer Financial Committee — a big step fueled by her love for the game and her desire to give back. As a former hockey mom, Erin knows how deeply hockey is woven into Canadian life. Now, she’s using her business experience to help rebuild Hockey Canada and open more doors for kids to get involved — especially girls and underrepresented communities.

“We need to get more kids on the ice,” Erin said. “That means tackling barriers like affordability and access — and bringing more communities into the game.”

Dr. Plant, herself a proud hockey mom of four, shared her own experiences with the Russell Coyotes and the incredible sense of community that comes from the rink.

From stories of lake hockey in Chelsea to the excitement of professional women’s hockey coming to Ottawa, this conversation is a celebration of sport, resilience, and connection.

🎥 Watch the full interview below to hear more about Erin’s vision for the future of hockey in Canada — and how we can all play a part.

Thanks to everyone who joined us on the ice. We’re already counting down to next year!
